Are Home Remedies for Damaged Hair Really Effective?
Most women can certainly understand the cliche “I’m having a bad hair day”. It’s sometimes so surprising to find that your hair seems to refuse to be styled or refuse to stay in place and the frustration ends up getting the best of you. If you have the resources, you just might rush to the nearest salon to let them fix your hair for you. Unfortunately, not everyone has the budget to spare when their hair gets all damaged and refuse to cooperate. So what’s the recourse if a trip to the salon for hair damage control is too expensive? The solution is trying out different home remedies from ingredients that are readily available in your own kitchen.
The most common home remedy for damaged hair, which is usually characterized by dry and brittle hair, is mayonnaise. Yes, Mayonnaise! After cleaning and rinsing your hair with a gentle shampoo, you need only to apply enough mayonnaise to coat each and every strand of your hair, making sure to coat from roots to tips just to be sure, and then leave it on for as little as 30 minutes or even overnight if you feel that your hair really needs it. If you’re planning to leave it on overnight, you just make sure to cover it with saran wrap or a shower cap to keep the oils intact and not spill over on your bedspread. When you wake up the next morning, you simply wash with a gentle shampoo and rinse. You may repeat this as often as you need to.
If you don’t like using mayonnaise, you may also opt to try a combination of avocado, banana and egg yolk. Another combination is almond oil, coconut oil and honey. Your choice of ingredients depends on what you have available and whether you are allergic to any of it.
Another alternative home remedy is using hot oil. Using any of your preferred oils, you can simply pour some of it in a Ziploc bag and heat it up. When it’s relatively safe to place in the palm of your hand, you may simply spread the concoction through your hair, leave it there for about 10 minutes and then shampoo and rinse afterward.
Other ingredients which you can try include cocoa butter, aloe vera, vinegar and beer. Most of these ingredients are meant to introduce and saturate your damaged hair with natural oils to strengthen it, make your hair shine and give it its natural bounce. Try to experiment and see what works best with your hair to achieve the best improvement.
