What Really Decides The Hair Restoration Cost?

hair restoration costHair restoration cost depends on many factors. We will discuss them one by one. The effects of losing your hair can be quite traumatic and many people are looking for ways to restore the hair on their head. However,  hair restoration cost can be pretty significant. For many people, though, hair loss begins to affect their self esteem, even causing some anxiety in social situations. While most people don’t realize that their hair loss was probably already set in stone before they were born due to genetic factors, thinning or the loss of hair can be difficult to deal with.

Different Types of Hair Restoration Will Affect Hair Restoration Cost

Today, there are more options than ever before when it comes to stopping hair loss and re-growing healthy hair. It wasn’t too long ago that the only options available to men and women for hair loss were to cover it up with a wig or a toupee. You will now find many treatments available, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter topical solutions, natural remedies, and even hair loss surgery. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. What most people want to know, though, is what each type of hair restoration cost.

Surgical Options And Hair Restoration Cost

Obviously, these are the most expensive procedures. Hair implants, or “plugs” as they are often called, are taken from an area of the scalp with lots of healthy hair. These plugs are then surgically placed in the area where the hair is thinning or gone completely. Almost all hair restoration surgeons will charge by the plug. This fee can range from $3-$10 a plug. The overall cost of the surgery will depend on how much scalp will need to be covered. The average man will need about 1,000-2,500 plugs. You may need more or less. Since this is a permanent solution for hair loss, it is worth the cost.

Prescription Medications Decides Hair Restoration Cost

Currently, Finasteride, commonly known as Propecia, is one of the most popular hair loss treatments for men. It is not approved for use in women. This drug has been proven to stop hair loss in most patients, but some also report significant regrowth, as well. This prescription medication will generally cost $70-$120 a month. The problem is if the medication is no longer taken, the hair loss will start again.

Topical Solutions

You are probably familiar with minoxidil, which is more commonly known as Rogaine. This topical solution is available over-the-counter and is effective at stopping hair loss. It has also been show to promote the growth of new hair in some people. Minoxidil is approved for use in women; however, the lower strength seems to work better for women than the stronger one. Rogaine can be found in most pharmacies. This hair restoration costs about $30 for a month’s supply. If the treatment is stopped, hair loss will begin again.

Laser Hair Restoration

Laser hair restoration is a fairly new process and will require a doctor’s prescription to begin. The science behind this treatment is that the laser stimulates the red blood cells in the scalp, resulting in more nutrients to the scalp. The results can vary between patients. Laser hair restoration can cost between $2,000 and $10,000, depending on the size of the area needing treatment and how long the treatment is needed. You need to consider all these factors while calculating hair restoration cost.
